General Information:
Classes are held on an ongoing basis.  Newcomers can jump in any time.

This dance is very easy on the body when compared to other dance forms, but as with all fitness and exercise, you should consult your physician if you believe you have health problems that could be exacerbated by physical activity.  Those with bad knees or backs in particular should remember to take it easy.  We will not be doing any very demanding physical moves in this class (backbends or floorwork, for example).

Bellydancing is safe for pregnant women up until the third trimester.   (Indeed, the origins of bellydance are thought to lie in ancient Egypt, where it was used both as a fertility dance, and to prepare women for childbirth by strengthening the required back and abdominal muscles.)

Try it out!  You won't find an offer like this anywhere else: a class taught by TWO professional dancers for half the price of a regular bellydance class!  Please call ahead to reserve a spot.

Locations:
The beginner/intermediate lessons are held in the Blue Lounge of Kings Court, located at 36th & Chestnut.  The entrance is on Sansom, and a valid Penn ID is required for entry.

Yalla! troupe practices are held at 7 PM in King's Court on Wednesdays, as well as in Leidy Lab on Hamilton Walk on Sundays.   For more information, email myself or Laila.

Price:
Classes: $5/ class  ($3 for King's Court residents)
Troupe membership: free (requires tryouts)

What to wear:
Comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely.  Exercise wear or dance leotards are ideal.  A long skirt is optional.  Although bellydance is generally performed in bare feet, it is perfectly acceptable to wear some sort of foot covering (socks, ballet slippers, ballroom dance shoes) to protect your feet.

Accessories:
Imported Egyptian hip scarves are available for $30-55 each.
Chiffon and silk dance veils: $12-30.
CDs-$15 each
